Gibraltar Furniture Welcomes Philippe Starck

Sensual.  Clever.  Functional.  These are the elements that define the work of designer Philippe Starck.  In 1984, Starck joined forces with Gerard Mialet to form xO, a “joyful, fun, and provocative” line of chairs, stools, tables, and accessories, which are now available through Gibraltar Furniture.

Inspired by his father who worked as an aircraft designer, Starck spent his childhood under his father’s drawing boards, sawing, cutting, gluing, and sanding, dismantling bikes, motorcycles and other objects. After attending the Ecole Nissim de Camondo in Paris, he went on to create pieces for Paris night clubs, the Elysée Palace, and numerous hotel interiors all over the world. Today, Philippe Starck may be the most famous and prolific designer alive. His desire for transgression and challenge of aesthetic and cultural provocation leads him to transform our lamps, door handles, cutlery, kettles, vases, clocks, scooters, motorcycles, desks, beds, taps, toothbrushes, baths, toilets… in short, our whole life.

Bubu 1er: The most versatile of all stools that does not take itself seriously. A universal container, a laundry basket, an ice bucket, a small pedestal table, a tooth crown... it's up to you to invent the rest!

With his line xO, Starck seeks to surprise and melt contraries: to issue popular products designed by the greatest designers of the world, to use plastic to manufacture luxurious pieces of furniture, to be the one international design house in France to work hand-in-hand with Asia and the USA. Many xO items are pieces that Starck designed for specific locations including the Royalton stool, which was created for the New York hotel of the same name as well as the Peninsula chair, featured in the Felix restaurant at The Peninsula Hong Kong hotel.  xO also features original pieces designed by Karim Rashid, Patrick Jouin, Christian Ghion, and Eugeni Quitllet.  These new pieces, including the Bite Me chair and the Z Stool by Rashid, are clever, versatile, and distinctively xO.

Bite Me: Karim Rashid's first collaboration with xO. Equally perfect for homes and public use, Bite Me blend comfort and a light, practical design by making best use of polyethylene worked with the rotational mould technique.

Gibraltar Furniture features the xO line and is now offering free shipping.

Couture features the clean, rounded lines that define Philippe Starck. It stands as proof that the worlds of design and fashion are not too distant, and can be combined with success.
